Description: The Red Fox, a placental carnivore, was introduced to Australia in the early 1860s. With no natural predator in Australia it flourished, finding plenty of small native mammals, birds and reptiles to eat. Today it is a pest species living from the deserts to city edges across Australia, although not in tropical areas or in Tasmania.
Fossils: There are no Red Fox fossils in Australia.
